COMISKEY PARK
1990

This first group is from July 25, 1990, the last season played in Old Comiskey Park. On this day the Sox lost to the Cleveland Indians 6-1, but at this point in the season they were 56-37 and went on to win 94 games that year and finished in second place.

While researching this, I found a great site dedicated to the old ballpark.  Click here to visit that site.

Sure, she was aging and not gracefully. I spent quite a bit of time here in my youth rooting for my team and I was sad to see it end.

We walked all the way around the concourse so I could take pictures.

I had a couple opportunities to sit in this area for a game. A great view!

Hey! There's a ball up there on the screen!

There were almost 32,000 people here for a Wednesday matinee.

The field looks great in mid-season. Roger Bossard had already been Head Groundskeeper for 7 years following his father Gene's retirement in 1983.

The new ballpark was still under construction and you could see how much higher it was than the old.

They were two of only three Sox players making over $1M that season.
The third was Carlton Fisk.

This next group is from the last night game played at Old Comiskey - Saturday, September 29, 1990. I attended the game with a friend who was as bummed about them tearing down the old palace as I was. We took time to walk around the park and take in the sights, sounds, and smells one last time. The Sox won the game 5-2. Following the game was a fireworks show, and then people didn't want to leave. Security was tight, but the crowd was well-behaved.

I looked like a lot of the other 40,000 fans that night!
